Importance of the blog

Initially when the professor told us that we would have to have a blog for this class and respond to management issues i felt like it would be something that would just take up my time and be of little value to me. As we began to do the class activities and began receiving our assignments it became clearer how this blog would seek to benefit us. As i read other peoples blogs you could see the various styles of management we had in just our class and by responding and sometimes even going back and forth with people on certain posts we could learn from each other and further develop our own strategies. Group members could point out your strengths and weaknesses. This helped in many ways to express your opinions on the class activities when sometimes it was too hectic for you to be able to participate.

Personally i dont think my blog will go beyond this class. I dont see how my 3 followers would be interested in my daily activities or experiences but, I must say i feel this blog is an extremely useful and effective tool for this management class and should remain so in your future courses.

I am glad i was "pushed" into making a blog because it has given me an insight into opinions and ideas that i might not have been exposed to without it. Thank you to all the classmates and Professor Kurpis for making this course into what it is!

lunch time?

McGangBang

So yesterday afternoon I was hanging out with two of my friends and I decided to go to McDonalds and do my extra credit assignment. I asked them to come along both because I didn’t think I had the courage to do it alone and because I thought they would have a good time doing this with me, which they absolutely did. So I walk into the McDonalds and I walk up to the first and only register open. The cashier Stephany didn’t speak English very well so when I approached her this is what happened.

Stephany: Welcome to McDonalds, how can I help you?
Maros: I’d like a McGangBang please.
Stephany: You want a McShake? What size and flavor?
Maros: No, you misunderstand, I want a McGangBang.
Stephany: I don’t know what that is. Is it on the menu?
Maros: Not exactly. It’s a double cheeseburger with a McChicken right in the middle of it.
Stephany: Im confused. I don’t know what you want.
Maros: Can I please speak to the manager? Don’t worry Stephany. You aren’t in any trouble.
Manager walks over…”welcome to McDonalds, how can I help you?”
Maros: I would like a McGangBang.
Manager: Oh haha. This is a joke guys, he’s kidding around.
Maros: No I’m not, I’m absolutely serious. It’s a real sandwich, a double cheeseburger with a McCkicken in the middle.

At this point, the manager realizes that im serious and she starts to pay attention. She is very hesitant to believe me because my friends and I are laughing hysterically the whole time. So I begin explaining how to make the sandwich and she is trying to understand me. She goes to the back and they make a sandwich. When she hands it to me, it is clearly not big enough and I open it up and there is one beef patty and one piece of chicken in one set of buns. So I explain to her that she has made a mistake and that it is not what I ordered. She then takes the sandwich back and asks the cooks to make another one. At this point they aren’t hesitating making the sandwich but they are just trying to understand what it comprises of. The manager is still doubting that this sandwich is a real thing and asked me if I just made it up on the spot. I reassure her that this is a real sandwich and I pull up a picture of it on my phone and show it to her. She then takes my phone and shows it to the cooks in the back.
The cooks look at it but still look absolutely confused. One of the cooks then leans over the counter separating the kitchen and the registers and asks me for directions on how to make it. I then tell him the bun, beef patty, cheese, entire McChicken sandwich including buns, lettuce, tomato etc, another beef patty, cheese, ketchup, onions, and finally the last bun. At this point in my adventure, I have the two managers and entire staff involved in making this sandwich and everyone is laughing, with the initial manager still in disbelief at my order. Two customers behind me are laughing because they are also in disbelief and seeing everyone running around trying to complete my order.
The first girl Stephany tried to put my order into the register and messed it up and as the manager was trying to fix it the order came out to $5.86. So I tell her that it shouldn’t cost that much because it is just a McChicken from the dollar menu and a double cheeseburger, so she begins fumbling with the order, adding things on, taking things off, and I felt it was really unprofessional how they couldn’t put in the simple order of what I ordered. Ultimately my order comes out to $4.66 as I am charged extra $1.69 for a dollar menu McChicken and then she changes my order for a double cheeseburger to a dollar menu McDouble and then charged me for a coke that I didn’t even receive. She prints this out and tells me that this is the best she can do. So me laughing hysterically I just accept it and I have her sign my receipt and write that I ordered a McGangBang. We then went to my friend’s house and my friend Stephen tries a bite first. He is displeased with the large variety of flavors and tells us that we shouldn’t ever try that. So being that I ordered it, I took a bite, and true to his word, it was a terrible idea as it tastes AWFUL!
All in all, I was only displeased with the inability of the manager to input my order correctly. Their ability and determination to make the sandwich that I ordered correctly was great but I was upset with the checkout process.

Personal Profile Analysis

After taking the personality test in class and getting a description of I-d i read over the descriptions for each and i feel that it was a very effective method of determining behaviors.
I completely agree with the analysis of the test and the descriptions. If i could be another type, I would like to be more of a D than an I. I think if i put my mind more to focusing on my objectives i could be closer to D but i am very people oriented and tend to be sociable and inspiring rather than demanding and authoritative.
Companies that use this system can definitely use it to determine what type of interactions they would be best for and what roles they should have or strive for in the company. They can also determine what the best way to approach certain employees if they are working inefficiently or to help expand their roles or careers in the organization.

The Power of Vision

After watching that inspirational video...i went to the beach by my house and while throwing starfish back into the ocean i thought about my goals after graduation. One of my professional goals is to land a job working for a wall street firm trading equities or options. Another goal i have is to become a millionaire before the age of 25. I plan to do this by working for a wall street firm and making investments of my own. A person goal i have is to own a house by age 30. When i grow older i would like to be a partner in a firm, or own my own company. I threw in a starfish for every goal i listed here!

Eggs-cellent failure

So our egg drop came out kind of scrambled. Step 1 was pretty good. Our group knew what we had to do and we allocated time to each part of the project from drawing to the planning of the eggs' encasement. Step 2 was also good. We saw the materials we had to work with and planned appropriately for how to utilize them. We chose the artist but failed to distinguish weaknesses or strengths among the group because we all felt like we knew what was best. Step 3 was argued about for only a few minutes and then dismissed, as we agreed on one idea for the egg. Step 4 was planned out. We decided who would cut the straws, who would tape the straws together, and how everything was to be executed. Step 5, although we planned it all out, it didn't happen accordingly. Everyone wanted to do every job and we ended up with different size pieces of straw, tape was used everywhere and even though we ended up with a close enough replica of our intended plan it was kind of a mess. We finished our egg holder but gravity had other plans for our oval friend Ed.

Culture shock!

I came to America when i was 6 years old. I didn't really experience the culture in my native country so much but being here and listening to what my parents say shows me that family is much more significant in European countries than it is here. I also went on vacation to Florida and Vermont this past year. When you go over there, life is going at a much slower and relaxed pace than in the big apple. People aren't always rushing, people are calmer and it really changes your perspective too. I was waiting on line at a subway sandwich store and there were a bunch of people ahead of me and the worker was taking her time and making sandwiches so slowly. Instead of people complaining and telling them to hurry up, they were having friendly conversations and pleasantly waiting. Time is essential to us in New York and we are always on the move and even though this was only a few states away it is quite different and puts you in another state of mind.
