Culture shock!
I came to America when i was 6 years old. I didn't really experience the culture in my native country so much but being here and listening to what my parents say shows me that family is much more significant in European countries than it is here. I also went on vacation to Florida and Vermont this past year. When you go over there, life is going at a much slower and relaxed pace than in the big apple. People aren't always rushing, people are calmer and it really changes your perspective too. I was waiting on line at a subway sandwich store and there were a bunch of people ahead of me and the worker was taking her time and making sandwiches so slowly. Instead of people complaining and telling them to hurry up, they were having friendly conversations and pleasantly waiting. Time is essential to us in New York and we are always on the move and even though this was only a few states away it is quite different and puts you in another state of mind.
